Our Approach

White Buffalo Youth Inhalant Treatment Centre staff provide a caring, home-like, family environment for our youth. We genuinely care about the safety and well-being of our clients while in our care.

Clients will participate in continuing their education in a small classroom setting with our Teacher, partake in our Horse Therapy Program in partnership with Cartier Farms, gain knowledge from our holistic treatment programming and cultural events, and enjoy various recreation activities during their 4 month stay.

Our Elders are available to our clients to provide teachings, cultural activities and, of course, the Kookum and Mooshum comfort they sometimes require.

White Buffalo Youth Inhalant Treatment Centre takes pride when our clients graduate from the program. We understand the struggles from being away from their family and community is difficult as well as the many challenges they face as they go through treatment. Their determination to get through the program is one to admire and congratulate. The clients celebrate their success with a special ceremony (graduation attire included!) where family and friends are encouraged to take part.

We recognize the importance of aftercare when the clients return to their communities after treatment. Our Outreach Coordinator provides follow up 1 week, 1 month, 3 month, 6 month and 1 year with our youth post treatment. Our clients are also provided with our 1-800 number to contact staff at anytime as well contact through our Facebook page.

Our Philosophy

WBTC’s values are based on the seven sacred teachings:

Love, Respect, Honour, Courage, Wisdom, Humility, Truth

WBTC is a temporary home for our youth and we are their extended family during their stay.

We portray these teachings to our clients while providing them with unconditional love, acceptance, belonging and affiliation. We are responsible for providing our youth with a connection to their culture and identity. Our youth are taught hope, pride, empowerment, and self-acceptance; learn to overcome mistakes, harmony, motivation, balance and resiliency so that they develop a strong sense of wellbeing.

We give our clients a place within the community, acknowledgement, nurturing and trust so that they may find their voices.

We model healthy behaviour through an environment of respect, boundaries, praise and consequences so they may learn and understand values, morals, and healthy behaviour.

We recognize the need for strength to overcome barriers and to be confident in the face of fear. We provide a place where emotions are embraced and feelings are expressed in a healthy manner.

We provide our youth with an opportunity to achieve their goals, dreams and aspirations.

We have been blessed with an opportunity to impact our youth in a manner that will save lives.
